Dementia Care

Dementia is a syndrome that progressively worsens and requires a specialist kind of care to be provided. Nicholas James prides ourselves on the high level of Dementia care that we provide in all of our homes. Dementia can end up causing forgetfulness or confusion and this leaves those with Dementia vulnerable to falls and injury. Here at Nicholas James, we go the extra mile to make sure that our staff have the latest training and know-how to provide the right level of care for people with dementia. This includes management and all members of staff so that they can all provide assistance when needed. We provide care for those affected by all types of Dementia and Alzheimer’s including vascular, frontal lobe and Lewy bodies.

We keep up to date with the latest research papers and articles from experts in these fields which enables us to create specifically designed engaging and stimulating environments and décor.

Some of the tools we use are:

  • Reminisce Therapy, using person centred memory boxes and memory apps
  • Music Therapy: using IPods and Tablets
  • Doll Therapy, a sensitive programme which aims to bring comfort and joy to those who use them.
  • Cognitive, Creative and Physical Activity Programmes
  • It is also important to us that we cascade our knowledge and experience on to others.

We work with families and friends to ensure we provide them with the support and knowledge that they need. We are always here to answer questions or help them to continue to have that special bond with their loved one.

Our Dementia services are important to us and a promise we have made is to have a Dementia Champion in all of our homes. Our Dementia Champions hold Dementia Friends sessions, for staff, families and friends and the local community, helping to inform and spread the message that is the initiative of the Alzheimer’s Dementia Friend programme.
