World Alzheimers Month

Posted on 30th September 2019

As a provider within the social care sector we are always looking for innovative initiatives to continue to build on our Alzheimer & Dementia Services. As today is the last day of World Alzheimer’s Month we wanted to share an update on our own specialist dementia training  ‘The Dementia Dining Experience’  .

So far this year with have seen the training used in our homes on a regular basis both for staff but also as a information services for families, schools and some local communities.

We were also invited to work alongside the CCG in West Kent along with other Dementia Training initiatives at DementiaTraining Days during the summer. We were really pleased to be able to offer the training to local care homes, social services, nurses etc. who on the day fed back how informative and powerful the training was.

Since then we have been overwhelmed with the response and feedback and calls to take the training out on the road.

The training is a multi-sensory experience which can be tailored to where a training need has been identified and has seen over 100 participants undertake the experience so far this year giving positive feedback on how it has effected the trainee.

What is great about it is, we are able to update and improve the training on a continual basis and then cascade that out to our homes. We have recently updated the sound piece that runs along the other elements of the training.

We are really excited to watch the next development for the DDE.
