Careers

Here at Nicholas James Care Homes we are all too aware of the importance of recruiting the right candidates to our join teams.

“I started work in 2003 as a health care assistant at Carleton Lodge. I had already gained NVQ qualifications to level 4 when Nicholas James Care Homes took over in 2007. It was the new management that recognised my skills, qualifications and experience and I was promoted to senior carer; to have this recognised was a great feeling. The opportunity to apply for the Deputy Managers position came upon completion of my RMA qualification and I was offered the position. During this time I was also mentored by some of the companies experienced managers. Following the birth of my first child I returned to be mentored further and was ready for an opportunity to become a Manager for our home, Walmer Care Centre in 2010.

It is not very often you hear about companies employing from in house and progressing their staff but I am forever grateful to be given the opportunity. I now follow this programme myself and I train staff and help them develop to become a skilled carer and if there is someone who wants to progress I encourage and support them in their career. I now, with the support of the company mentor future deputies and managers.” Jilly Hyland Registered Manager Walmer Care Centre.
