My journey into care home started with my grandmother years ago. She was a nurse, and I will always remember her taking so much pride in her job. I joined the care sector in 2005, working in a nursing home as a carer. I did my NVQ 2 and 3 at my local hospital and spent 6 years working in the hospital in the stroke ward. I soon was an assigned champion for the older ones in the ward and was involved as much as possible, but after 6 years I wanted to try something new. After leaving the hospital I went on to work in the community as a team leader and it was at that point, I had the opportunity to complete my NVQ 5 and after a few years of working in the community where I went to work for an agency, I was assigned to work in a care home. I have been in Edward House for just over two years. I love working at Edward House. It is very homely atmosphere in here. I'm so proud to be able to do things for the residents, talking with them and spending time with them and seeing them do things that they haven't done in a while is a real joy. When I see them happy, having a good time and being looked after properly, I'm happy.

My career began when I worked at Chailey Heritage school, where I was a teaching assistant for five years, working with children with complex neuro disabilities. However, after working alongside children for five years I decided I wanted a change. My great grandmother owned and ran her own nursing home in Stroud and I have always had an interest in caring for the elderly. I started working at Edward House in 2021 as a night carer, I then progressed to Senior Carer and started working days, and in April 2024, I was promoted to Deputy Manager at Edward House. I am extremely passionate about ensuring that our residents are provided with the best care that is person centred in their later years.

Activity Coordinator

My brother has been in Edward House for nearly 18 months, and we are very pleased with the way he is looked after, The manager and her team are very supportive, kind, caring, compassionate and helpful, not just to him but to us as well. We cannot praise the residence enough for always being pleasant, cheerful and welcoming, keeping us up to date with events. My brother is quite settled now and is happy with his life in Edward House which gives us peace of mind knowing he is so well looked after.

Sister of Resident

Staff are always helpful and caring to my mother. They make my mother as comfortable as she can be with her dementia which can obviously be challenging. The food and facilities are good and the location of the house is also very convenient.
