Team NJCH Climb Ben Nevis for Alzheimer’s Society

12th July

Our Residential Communities Walmer Care Centre and Alexander House took on the mighty Ben Nevis on Saturday Night fulfilling a promise to raise funds for a cause close to their hearts.
After months of fundraising events and training around Deal and up and down the steep hills of Dover, the team set off for Scotland on Saturday Morning to take part in the yearly Ben Nevis midnight challenge.

The team consisting of managers Jill Hyland, Natalie Lamoon, Heads of Care Karen Kirk and Joanne Armstrong, Leisure and Lifestyle Coordinator Colette Eldridge and Senior Carer Sara Banerjee arrived at the Ben Nevis Base Camp for a health and safety briefing before setting off at 22:30 hrs. The weather was very hazardous and they battled extreme wind and rain. After 3 and half hours of making their way up in the dark and only metres from the top the event was called off for adverse weather conditions making it unsafe. Although not quite conquered, their gallant efforts in serve weather and their grand total of over £6,000 raised so far for the Alzheimer’s Society means they truly deserve their medals.

We wonder what their next challenge will bring????
